Controllers & PLCs

Programmable Logic Controllers, motion controllers, and remote I/O โ€” the decision-making layer of any automated system.

The PLC is the brain of a machine or process. It reads inputs from sensors, runs the control logic you've programmed in ladder, function-block or structured text, and switches outputs that drive actuators, motors, valves and indicators. We stock everything from compact micro-PLCs for stand-alone OEM machines (Siemens S7-1200, Mitsubishi FX-series, Allen-Bradley MicroLogix, OMRON CP-series) up to large modular controllers (Siemens S7-1500, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, ABB AC500) that handle plant-wide control.

For motion-heavy applications โ€” multi-axis CNC, robotics, packaging โ€” a dedicated motion controller or motion CPU is often paired with the PLC to handle deterministic, high-cadence position loops without loading the main scan. Remote I/O extends the controller's reach over a single fieldbus cable, letting you place I/O blocks next to the sensors and actuators they serve instead of running long copper back to a central panel.

Replacement and obsolescence are the two most common reasons customers contact us about controllers. Many older Siemens, Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi PLCs are still running fine on the factory floor but are no longer manufactured โ€” we maintain stock or sourcing relationships for legacy parts as well as the current generation, and can advise on like-for-like swaps or migration paths.

What to consider

  • Digital and analog I/O count โ€” present and future
  • Scan time / cycle requirements for the application
  • Communication protocols supported (Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Profibus, CC-Link, EtherCAT)
  • Programming environment & licensing (TIA Portal, Studio 5000, GX Works, etc.)
  • Redundancy / safety-rated variants if the process demands it
